Loretta Padgett…Runs!

by Rachell Elaine Jackson

Persuaded by her best friend, Suellen, Loretta decides to run for class president. But she doesn’t understand the pressure that will be tossed against her, especially from rich Molly Blankenship who is also determined to be president and who has been in that position her entire school career. She arranges problems for Loretta--many problems to persuade Loretta to drop out of the contest. But Loretta is determined. She places her crude posters on the school bulletin boards where Molly’s “perfect” posters disappear. Molly tells the principal that Loretta stole her posters and replaced them with hers. Later Loretta opens her locker and a pile of toilet paper rolls fall from it. Again she accuses Loretta of the act. Later, Loretta, probably the best first baseman in the school, is banned by the principal from playing on the girls’ intramural softball team. But Loretta uses trickery to play and wins the principal’s approval. At the final voting for class president, Molly makes an excellent speech. But Loretta has yet another trick up her sleeve. What is it? Who wins? You won’t believe it until you read it!     Loretta Padgett . . . Runs! Copyright 2019 by Rachell Elaine Jackson
