Parades Have Their Problems October 3, 2016 In When’s Daddy Comin’ Home?, there is a scene in which Duffy is introduced to the sousaphone (sometimes called a tuba) in a brisk wind. A big gust hits the bell of the instrument, pushing her over backwards and onto the ground. I marched in one parade where the wind was also very strong. In that case, two flags were blown out of the girls’ hands and the flags and the girls landed on the street. The bruised girls quickly got up, retrieved their flags, and carried on. I simply substituted the sousaphone for the flags. They received treatment for their skinned hands and knees at the end of the parade. Parades often look and sound great, but there is a lot of sacrifice that goes into them. –Rachell Elaine Jackson
